Pita Bread

Ingredients

All Purpose flour 1 cup
Dry yeast 7g or 1/4 Oz

Olive Oil
Salt 1/2 tbsp
Sugar 1 tbsp
Luke warm water 1 cup

Preparation

  1. Add a teaspoon of sugar to 1/2 cup of luke warm water and then add instant yeast and let it rise for 10 mins. Sugar helps yeast rise faster.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add salt to all purpose flour and make a well in the centre. Add the risen yeast and mix well.
  3. In another bowl pour 1 tbsp of olive oil and transfer the mixture to this bowl and coat is well with olive oil.
  4. Cover the dough tightly and keep aside for 1 hour to rise. After 1 hour it's ready to be knead down.
  5. Before starting to knead it, set the oven to 450F for pre heating.
  6. On a wooden  surface, sprinkle some flour and place the dough on it and start patting and kneading until the stickiness goes away.
  7. Cut the dough in 6 equal pieces and round each piece and roll it into a round shape with the help of rolling pin. Keep flouring the work surface to avoid stickiness.
  8. Place them nicely space from each other on the baking tray. Not all of them can go in one shot, so place them according to the size of baking tray. I did 3 in the 1st turn and other 3 in the second turn.
  9. Bake for 4-5 min and then flip it over and bake for another 2 min. Make sure you don't burn them.
  10. And it's ready to be served with either hummus or baba ganoush.
